Challenge yourself about how you think about branding
I want to challenge you about HOW you think about branding. Not everything has to be in a nice little box with a tight ribbon on it for you to seem more professional. You don’t have to necessarily have the girl-with-the-laptop picture to look like you know what you’re doing. The thing is, when you play it safe, you won’t be as memorable. But if you can get outside that box, you WILL stand out, I promise you that. Here’s how we turned Meaghan’s vision and translated it for her website photos.
The Discovery Call
When Meaghan and I had our discovery call, I was sitting in the Delta Sky Club waiting to fly home after shooting in San Antonio. It was a bit loud in there – as you can imagine – so when she told me she wanted to go into a desert for part of her photoshoot, I wondered if I heard her wrong? She did want a BRANDING photoshoot, didn’t she? I love shooting on location, don’t get me wrong, but this was different and exciting!
The more we talked and she explained her vision and what her and her web designer had in mind, I could see it! I could see it all. For her locations, I felt Enchanted Rock and San Antonio’s historic area downtown called La Villita would be perfect. She had a creative idea of mixing some fun vibes to create a stark contrast to the desert like surroundings. And then wanted a Southwestern feel that incorporated food and a fun vibe that could be near a market.
Meaghan is centering her business around working with people struggling with disordered eating patterns/unhealthy relationships with food. For the wilderness location, she wanted to show that people may feel like they’re alone in the wilderness but there’s hope.
What happened on location
In the end, with Meaghan, you can’t tell from the photos, but we had all sorts of adventures with cactus, coyotes (don’t worry, we only heard them), beetles, and fuzzy caterpillars we weren’t sure were poisonous or not. We got just what we needed before the sun set for the evening.
After having to reschedule a couple of times, we finally shot at San Antonio’s La Villita, located downtown. Since my brand packages come with a hair and makeup artist, she made sure her makeup and hair looks would stand up to the weather. Thank God, because this location was beautiful but that particular day it decided to mist for most of the morning. Then it started to lightly rain on us! Thank you, Texas. There were enough covered areas to shoot under, but we were also able to have Meaghan be out walking around when it wasn’t misting! Thank you, Universe!
I absolutely love the images we created for Meaghan’s new website!
Enjoy the highlights.
