The beginning of a new year is normally focused on vision boarding, goal setting, and taking stock of what you want to accomplish. While all of these are good for your business, there are some things you maybe haven’t thought about updating in the beginning of the year that will have an affect on your brand.
1. Update your copyright in your footer
The proper format is “copyright sign” “year established-2024”. This may seem like a little thing, but if you haven’t updated it in a while, people will wonder if your work is outdated, since your website seems to be.
2. Update your portfolio and services pages with the latest version of your work
This also goes for any services that need updating. You worked hard to sharpen your skills and put out some beautiful things into the world. Don’t forget to show it off.
3. Review your services and make sure they are aligned with this year’s goals
For instance, if one of your goals is to work smarter not harder and you have a service that has a 10-step process, that might be good indication you need to simplify your services. Start with who you are trying to reach first, then work backwards and see what type of process/service would be best for them and also aligned with what you want for your business. *Pro tip – Simple is always best.
4. Refresh your brand photos
You have grown this last year (or 2). Everything has energy, even your photos. Energetically, if you don’t feel great about what you’re putting out there, or feel like a fraud because it just doesn’t feel like you anymore, that will be translated online. If you are putting the same few photos on everything online, it’s likely it’s starting to feel a little dated. If it’s been a while or you’re shifting as a business owner in your services or who you serve, it’s time to rebrand altogether. Remember, you attract what you put out into the world. If what’s out there doesn’t feel aligned, the viewer won’t feel aligned with you.
5. Check for broken links
This is definitely the one that is forgotten about the most. As you rename or delete pages on your website, it’s easy to break links. Instead of hoping people don’t get a 404 message, why not check old blog posts and button links to make sure they’re still going to the right places. My favorite tool I just discovered is one that scans your site for you. It’s https://atomseo.com
6. Update your Profile Pictures
At the beginning of the year, it’s a good idea to update your social media profile pictures. Facebook and LinkedIn especially will create more engagement for you because people always want to show you they noticed you updated your picture. A little known trick for the algorithms is when someone comments, “congrats” or “congratulations”, Facebook and LinkedIn will show the post to more people. If you pair the updating of your profile picture with a post like, “Check out my new, updated brand photos”, or “Look at this new thing I did…”, that garners lots of “Congrats” and gets you seen more.
